SMITHSONIAN EXHIBIT COMING TO JAMESTOWN, TN

The Smithsonian Institution and the National Archives, with support from Humanities Tennessee, and sponsored by the Sgt York Patriotic Foundation, in cooperation with the Fentress County Historical Society, will be bringing a traveling exhibit to Jamestown April 28 through June 2, 2012. The event will be hosted by the Progressive Savings Bank and will be free to the public. This will be a rare opportunity for our county and city to have this professional exhibit highlighting the ways people have worked in the past 150 years and to be able to see the progression of how various kinds of work has developed over the years due to new industry and technology capabilities in the home, on the farm, in the community, in factories, businesses and offices of all kinds.

The Exhibit will officially open on Saturday, April 28 with a Celebration on Main Street on the grounds of Progressive Savings Bank on North Main Street. Following a brief ceremony the exhibit hall and all outside activities will be open to the public. Displays, demonstrations, storytellers and music will relate how Fentress County residents have fed their families and enriched their lives since the formation of the County in 1823. Fentress County School Students will be participating with class displays and artifacts related to the theme.

Anyone wishing to participate in the outside activities on Saturday should contact Edie Tinch at 879-9583 for more information. Teachers seeking information about scheduling school groups should call Deborah York at 931-265-3427.
